We interrupt this transmission briefly...
So, always quick off the mark, this morning the General Register Office for Scotland has released the Top 100 names for 2011.

'Twas Ever Thus...
As it is Boxing Day, this week's TET is a festively themed 'Letter to the Editor' from The Times in 1946.
THE BABY'S NAME
TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMES
Sir, -- When I was a boy, living in Suffolk, a woman worked for us whose husband was in the Royal Navy. She named her two boys after his two favourite ships -- Urgent and Seraphis.
Once at Christmastide when my father was baptizing an infant and asked the mother what was to be the boy's name, she replied "'Erald." After a moment's thought he chanced it and proceeded to christen the child Harold. "No, no," declared the parents firmly, "the name is 'Erald, like the hymn, 'Ark the 'Erald Angels Sing."
Yours Faithfully,
L'ESTRANGE FAWCETT
