* Nine girls called Marintha Althera were registered in 1850. This is the first year this combo appears, but it continued to be used in the following years, especially the next five. 

 

'Twas Ever Thus...

As it is Boxing Day, this week's TET is a festively themed 'Letter to the Editor' from The Times in 1946.  

 

THE BABY'S NAME                            TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMES    Sir, -- When I was a boy, living in Suffolk, a woman worked for us whose husband was in the Royal Navy. She named her two boys after his two favourite ships -- Urgent and Seraphis.   Once at Christmastide when my father was baptizing an infant and asked the mother what was to be the boy's name, she replied "'Erald." After a moment's thought he chanced it and proceeded to christen the child Harold. There has been very little change to the Top 10 except that Lily and Harry have risen by 7 places, and Ethan has risen 6 places. 

Ruaridh, Isaac, Hamish, Lennon, Lara, Jasmine, Mirren, Mollie, Sara, Ayla and Laila are new to the Top 100 since 2010.
Calvin, Kenzie, Craig, George, Courtney, Alicia, Morgan, Naomi, Macy, Emilia, Cerys, Scarlett, Kayleigh and Nieve have dropped out since last year.
