Retro: a style or fashion imitative of the recent past.
Wikipedia sums it up quite nicely with the phrase "a culturally outdated or aged style, trend, mode, or fashion, from the overall postmodern past, that has since that time become functionally or superficially the norm once again." Most people consider retro items to be anything spanning from the 40s to the 70s, and what makes them so interesting is that, when put into a modern setting, they start to feel less dated, and more quirky. Think Trilbys and bellbottoms!
Retro names are technically too dated to be "trendy". But, if you are brave enough to dust them off and put them into a modern setting, they not only feel edgy-cum-quirky, they also feel homely.
