Enid Blyton is a true icon in British literature, and her children's stories have delighted for generations. In 2008, Enid Blyton was voted the UK's best loved writer, beating JK Rowling, Jane Austen and even Shakespeare.
Written particularly in the 1940s and 1950s, Enid's stories encapsulate the ideal of plucky, adventurous youths who say delightfully quaint phrases such as "Wizzard!" and "Spiffing!"
During her professional career, Blyton wrote hundreds upon hundreds of children's stories. Wonderful vintage character names abound, but I have only managed to include a small portion, particularly focusing on the children in the books.
