If you would like to see a particular name featured in a regular series post, please comment below with the name you would like featured and the type of post. I will do my best to fit the post into the blog timetable as quickly as possible.
Name of the Week (example)
I am happy to research any name that has had some usage as a name in the UK (any period).
Please be aware that if you request a name that is extremely rare, I may not be able to find much tangible information as to either its usage or its etymology, and it would therefore not be suitable as a NotW post. In such cases, I will endeavour to find another suitable format in which to display your requested information.
Name of the Week posts appear weekly, alternating equally between girls and boys.
Consistently, the girls' waiting list for NotW is longer than the boys', so boys requests will appear sooner than girls requests. If you request both a boy and a girl name, chances are the boy's name will be used first.
If you request a name that has alternate spellings (e.g. Gemma, Jemma), I may opt to put the most common spelling as the title for the post so as to get the most information, though all spellings will be mentioned.
Sibling Spotlight (example)
This type of post involves searching through 19th-century census records and cross-referencing them with birth records; 20th-century sibling sets require a mixture of cross-referenced birth records and birth announcements. The more common the name, the harder it is to find siblings as I literally have tens, or hundreds, of thousands of records to trawl through. This takes up a lot of time, and makes the post difficult to manage.
For that reason, I am now only open to take sibling spotlight requests for any name which is not in the Top 100 in England and Wales since 1996. You can check here.
Contemporary Combos (example)
As with Sibling Spotlights, the more common the name, the harder the workload. I am happy to except requests for any name which is not in the Top 100 in England and Wales since 1996. You can check here.
Name Help (example)
If you would like a personalised Name Help post to appear on the blog, please contact me at [email protected] so we can discuss your requirements. I am happy to change your first names to keep your anonymity if you wish and will never reveal your surname.
Please note, due to heavy time contraints I'm afraid I cannot offer private name consultations but I'm happy to discuss your name choices and queries with you via email in creating a Name Help post.
NOTE: If you request more than one name, I will do my best to post one of the names as soon as possible; the other will go on the waiting list to make it fairer for other requesters.
I also endeavor to work on a first come, first served basis from the point of request, so it may take several months for your post to appear, especially if you request a girls name as a NotW or a fairly common name as a sibling spotlight.
Comments on this post will be periodically unpublished once the request is met, to make for easier posting.
